About the project

Replaced an unreliable, manual WhatsApp-based warehouse communication process with an automated Slack notification system integrated into ERPNext. This solution delivered nearly 100% reliable order notifications directly to drivers’ tablets, eliminated manual messaging, reduced staff workload, and significantly improved operational efficiency and user experience.

Problem

The warehouse’s communication system relied on manual WhatsApp messages to notify delivery drivers of new orders. However, drivers often lacked reliable access to their phones during shifts, leading to:

  • Missed messages

  • Delays in order notifications

  • Increased coordination workload for warehouse staff

This gap highlighted the need for an automated, reliable, and accessible notification system that leverages the devices drivers consistently have on hand—their work tablets.

Research & Exploration

I evaluated several potential solutions, including:

  • WhatsApp for Business – Familiar interface but limited ERP integration.

  • Frappe Notifications – Possible native integration but required additional customization work.

  • Slack Notification Integration – Strong ERP compatibility, easy adoption, and no extra cost.

Design Decisions

I recommended Slack Notification Integration due to:

  • Seamless compatibility with the existing ERP system (ERPNext).

  • No implementation or licensing fees.

  • Ability to deliver instant, automated notifications to tablets.

  • Minimal learning curve for both warehouse staff and drivers.

Implementation

Configured Slack channels for order notifications.

  • Integrated ERPNext triggers to send notifications automatically when orders were ready.

  • Conducted quick user training for both warehouse staff and drivers to ensure smooth adoption.
